Bernina Train and Saint Moritz
For a day excursion you won't forget, take the highest mountain railway in the Alps!
After about 2 ½ hours bus ride through the pre-Alps from Milan to Tirano in the Province of Sondrio, on the left bank of the Adda river. Tirano is still surrounded by the walls erected by Ludovico il Moro at the end of the 15th century, and the area of the Madonna di Tirano church from the first half of the 16th century is an important pilgrimage destination and commercial center.
After some free time to enjoy lunch in Tirano, you'll board the famous Bernina Train. At first, your train ride takes you over the spiraling viaduct at Brusio, and keeps on going - without cogwheels - over the Bernina Pass into the Engadin.
With the Bernina Express you'll reach St. Moritz in a 2 1/2 hour trip, passing wild gorges, soaring bridges, fascinating loop tunnels, and white glaciers close enough to touch. You'll travel from the palms and oleanders of Tirano and northern Italy to the crisp snow of the Bernina Pass in Switzerland.
After the train journey you will visit the exclusive resort of St. Moritz, stopping at Swizerland’s best chocolate house, before enjoying some free time. Explore St. Moritz, which enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, and is not only a sports hub, but also a picturesque town surrounded by truly beautiful vistas of some of the highest alpine peaks. See for yourself why St. Moritz is called the "Top of the World!"
At the end of your eventful day in the Alps, you'll board your comfortable bus. Sit back and relax, you'll be taken back to Milan in a little over 3 hours.
